Animal Farm: An Analysis

Animal Farm: An Analysis ‘Animal Farm’ is a novel dependent on the Russian Revolution, about a gathering of animals needing to oppose man. Snowball a shrewd, reasonable and solid pioneer gets administered over by Napoleon, an unjustifiable and childish pioneer. This was the main mistake in the defiance. Snowball would have insubordinately improved a pioneer than Napoleon. The purposes behind this are he taught the creatures, had future monetary plans and realized how to keep a reasonable and shrewd network. Snowball really has faith in Old Majors message of animal balance and shared penance for shared addition, thus his thoughts speak to an endeavor to make a similarly working ranch. Despite the fact that he shares the early extravagances of the pigs, for example, the milk and apples which are kept from different creatures, he attempts to improve things for different creatures with mechanical advances like the windmill. Napoleon then again was an a serious opposite picture, he was childish pitiless and degenerate. He would think about his and the pigs intrigue first and afterward that of different animals and the ranch. His method of administering was imbalance, totally in opposition to the lessons of the Old Major and the Seven Commandments. Napoleon can be likened to Napoleon Bonaparte for his high aspiration and his standard by dread and power. This political parody gives understanding into two kinds of administration; the vote based, Snowball, and the narcissist, Napoleon. They were the two chiefs of the insurgency that occurred at the homestead in the start of the story. Napoleon is viewed as the very one who talked once in a while and just when completely required. Snowball then again was a charmer and had the option to catch the consideration of the group with his words. He was loaded with new plans to improve the lifestyle in the homestead. As history has demonstrated a narcissist head, for instance Adolf Hitler, is never a decent pioneer. For somebody to turn into a decent pioneer the individual needs to think about the entirety of the individuals he is speaking to yet when somebody just thinks about themselves they will get degenerate and soon their decision will end horrendously. Snowball was committed to the edicts and urged the creatures to tail it to the dab. He attempts techniques to improve the manner in which the creatures lived by beginning different clubs and attempting to show the creatures to peruse and compose. Napoleon then again just receives a couple of little guys and shows them on private. Nobody in the homestead realizes what he is doing. A significant factor in their initiative of the ranch was that they never concurred with one another. At whatever point, Snowball came out with his intricate plans to improve ranch life Napoleon remained against it. Nonetheless, more often than not Snowball had the option to prevail upon the help of the creatures with his appealling character and play with words. He had the option to prevail upon them with encouraging talk and some measure of thinking. He attempted to get the animals engaged with the dynamic through a democratic framework and in this way had a progressively participative way to deal with run ning the ranch. Napoleon then again wanted to direct and coordinate things. He was bad at getting the creatures on his side with his discussion. Since he realized that he would not be in administration of the homestead will Snowball was around he disposed of Snowball. He utilizes another pig called Squealer to talk for his sake and misdirect the creatures into accepting that everything Snowball did was destructive. Squealer was likewise used to educate incredible stories regarding Napoleon. Napoleon’s dictatorial style of administration, with falsehoods and stories driving the ranch, leave the animals confounded. Be that as it may, they continue with their work more enthusiastically than any other time in recent memory. He is a narcissist who makes the creatures work for the most part for his own advantage. At the point when a correlation is made between the initiative of these two pigs Snowball comes out as a fair chief while Napoleon comes out as a tyrant. Snowball came out with smart thoughts and consistently introduced it to the creatures for a vote. He is a pioneer who can raise the whole gathering, including himself, into more significant levels of ethical quality, inspiration and thought processes. He raised the inspirational degree of the livestock with his motivating talks and drove them to work and battle for freedom and the improvement of the homestead in which he excessively effectively took an interest. Then again Napoleon was degenerate and with bogus cases he constrained his choices on the creatures. There was no democratic or any proposals taken from the creatures. They were persuaded that everything that was occurring was to their benefit and made to accomplish twofold work with lesser compensation. All that he did at long last wound up in profiting him and the pigs how ever not different animals of the homestead. Since Napoleon just thought about himself he was unable to turn into the more noteworthy pioneer on the homestead. Snowball thought of the considerable number of creatures as equivalent and helped the creatures yet Napoleon just taints the creatures to get anything he desired. A narcissist style of administration is never a decent method to manage in light of the fact that at some point or another the individuals that the pioneer is governing over will get some answers concerning his degenerate ways and kick the pioneer out of his decision. Generally speaking Snowball was a superior chief than Napoleon. Snowball indicated bunches of the qualities of a decent pioneer. He was a decent speaker and audience, reasonable, gave valuable analysis and was a good example to different creatures. On Sundays when the animals had their gatherings Snowball would give extraordinary discourses and make proposition on approaches to make the Animal Farm a superior spot. He proclaimed notes to ensure everybody concurred and tuned in to different people’s sentiments. Be that as it may, Napoleon inevitably chose to drop all Sunday gatherings and settle on his own choices without talking about. In the event that creatures made some noise and differ they would in all probability be butchered by Napoleons watch hounds. This is against all ethics of good authority. Snowball additionally instructed the creatures so they could accomplish more and show their next ages. Snowball was a greatly improved pioneer than Napoleon since he upheld tra ining while Napoleon thought it was superfluous. Instruction is the way to about everything and if the animals could peruse and compose they would have the option to assist more on the homestead and they would improve comprehension of what is happening. They could peruse books on the most proficient method to run a homestead and on the world too and compose things to different creatures or individuals. The most significant distinction between these two creature pioneers isn't their conduct however their convictions, Snowball having confidence in what could be portrayed as Democratic Communism and Napoleon following Dictatorship. This significant contrast between the thoughts of these two pigs prompted the abolishment and slandering of Snowball by Napoleon and his mutts. When Snowball was in Animal Farm the animals saw flourishing and harmony, in light of the fact that their pioneer needed to give the animals a superior life than in that of Joness time. Be that as it may, Our Leader, friend Napoleon(pg. 69) thought about nobody else yet himself and force, he gave the lower proportions to the creatures than what they got when Jones was their lord. Prior the creatures used to decide on issues yet with the removal of Snowball their democratic rights and furthermore the gathering on Sundays were annulled, their motivation Beasts of England was illegal, the creatures were brought under s ubjugation again without their insight. The contradicting pioneers in Animal Farm Napoleon and Snowball were constantly in opposition to one another and shared nothing practically speaking other than the way that they were both acceptable pioneers. Snowball has some lead over Napoleon as in he was a vastly improved speaker than Napoleon was and he realized how to persuade the creatures. He was a philanthropic pioneer who demonstrated fortitude and gave moral help to the creatures. For a model, when Boxer had harmed a helper and everyone thought he was dead Snowball cheered them saying, No nostalgia, confidant a war is war(Orwell pg. 49). He truly accepted that all creatures are equivalent and acted and worked for the solace of his confidants, he was a legend. Snowball is a cautious and conscious scholar and has a sharp mind and ability for arranging and structure, the qualities that Napoleon later exploits. He is available to new thoughts and not effectively controlled, again things that Napoleon can't acknowledge and reasons why he later drives him from the homestead. His mastery is later observed as a danger by Napoleon who will keep on utilizing him as a substitute after he drives him off the homestead. Snowball has good thoughts, he needs to bring together and instruct the creatures. Snowball acts with extraordinary grit and fearlessness going into the Battle of Cowshed with incredible methodology and altruism. In the event that we want a general public of harmony, at that point we can't accomplish such a general public through brutality. In the event that we want a general public without separation, at that point we should not oppress anybody during the time spent structure this general public. On the off chance that we want a genera l public that is majority rule, at that point vote based system must turn into a methods just as an end.â

The Extraordinary Man in Crime and Punishment In the novel Crime and Punishment, the so-called "extraordinary man" theory plays an important role. Raskolnikov, who is extremely psychologically battered, believes himself to be exempt from the laws of ordinary men. It is this concept that subconsciously makes him believe he has the right to murder Alyona Ivanovna. The extraordinary man theory is widely popular. From the way that Raskolnikov sees it, the extraordinary man has the right to commit any crime and to break the law in any way because he is extraordinary. That isn't saying that legally it is a right, but rather an inner right to decide in one's own conscience whether to violate the law or any obstacle that stands in the way of the satisfaction of their idea. There are two main schools of thought on the subject, and two philosophers - Georg Hegel and Freiderich Neitzsche - bore the ideas. Both philosophers believed that there are a certain and select handful of extraordinary people in the world. They also believed that these extraordinary people were above the laws of ordinary men and did not have to submit to typical morality. However, these philosophers disagreed on the motivation of the extraordinary man. Hegel believed that the extraordinary man could ignore the laws as long as his actions benefited the race of man as a whole. On the other hand, Neitzsche believed that the extraordinary man broke the laws in order to benefit himself alone. In a way, Raskolnikov submits to both theories of the extraordinary man. It is important to understand why Raskolnikov believes himself to be extraordinary. Firstly, Raskolnikov's poor financial state and near poverty cause him to be pushed to the edge of sanity. Secondly, the natural arrogance that comes from possessing a great intellect (which Raskolnikov does) causes Raskolnikov to believe that he is above everyone else. In respect to his crime, one can look at it from both the Hegelian and Neitzschean point of view. For the first part of Crime and Punishment, Raskolnikov takes a Hegelian view of his crime. He convinces himself that he killed Alyona Ivanovna because she was an enemy to the poor. Raskolnikov believes he is doing mankind a service by removing the dishonest and unfair pawnbroker. However, he eventually may come to understand that, in short, Raskolnikov killed Alyona not because she was dishonest and he needed money, but he killed her simply to benefit his ego. Quite obviously, the extraordinary man theory is a central theme in Crime and Punishment. Dostoevsky spotlights the extraordinary man's failure due to his over-inflated ego and his ultimate redemption. Crime and Punishment is both a touching tale of downfall and redemption and a masterful disproof of Neitzche's and Hegel's teachings.

The first day

The first day Free Online Research Papers There I am lying in my bed, my body in tangled in the blankets. As I turn my head I slowly open my eyes to see what time it is on the clock. The number reads 6:45a.m. I think to myself â€Å"O no I am going to be so late!† I roll out of bed thinking that I had laid my clothes out the night before, as I look around that thought slowly leaves my head. I hear people downstairs, so I yell out â€Å"Mom have you seen where I put my clothes, I am running late!† My mom replies,† No honey, but come get some breakfast when you get done.† In the meantime, here I am it now even later in time than before and I still can’t find my clothes. O wait, what is this underneath this big pile of clothes? Ah ha, finally I have found my clothes, not just any clothes, and the perfect outfit for the first day of my freshman year. Being the first day of school meant a few things for me; one thing was that I was starting a brand new school with new people, today was the day for tryouts for the volleyball team. I was very excited. As I finally am dressed I run downstairs to see what my mother has made for breakfast. It smelled so good. As I approach the table I see eggs, bacon, toast, and pancakes, all my favorite. I look at the clock it now reads 7:40a.m. and, well see my school start at 8:00a.m. As a freshman I definitely did not want to be late for the first day of class, how would that look? I holler out to my mom;† Breakfast looks great mom, but I have no time to eat, I have to go or I will be late!† My mother replies;†Ok dear have a good day at school, good luck with tryouts and make sure you eat something healthy for lunch.† There I am headed out the door. Wait something is not right, I stand there in the drive for a minute. Ugh, I had forgotten my shoes and my backpack. So I rush upstairs, to the mess I call a room and am frantically looking for these things. I have no luck so I run back downstairs, where my mom is waiting with my shoes and my bag, she laughs a little. â€Å"H oney slow down, you will have plenty of time to get there,† she says. I replied, â€Å"I know mom but it’s the first day and I don’t want to be late, got to go.† Okay I am ready now. Meanwhile, I make my way to school, with class list in hand. As I peer around the corner to see where all my classes are the bell is beginning to ring. â€Å"That’s not good.† I say to myself as I am trying to rush to class without running. There it is room 101, Government. I take my seat at the back thinking that it is going to be good, because we can sit anywhere, and that meant I did not have to sit my any boys. As the class gets started out teacher does his introduction and lets us know what to expect. Class is almost over and I am still enjoying where I am sitting. That is about to change, our teacher says another thing class is that we will have assigned seat so everyone needs to get up. â€Å"O great† I say to myself. As the teacher finally reaches my name I still have some hope that I am going to be placed by no boys. My luck just ran out, not only did I get to sit by a boy but three boys. I had a boy to the right, the left and behind me. I think to mysel f if this is the worst of today then I will be ok. Farther on I have gone through half the day with the other classes just flying by and I have been lucky enough that in my other classes I did not have to sit by any boys that I got to sit with my friends. As much of a busy nerve racking day it has been it is finally lunch time. The cafeteria food is not the best, but if you are starving it’s something right. Today has been a great day, minus the boy thing. I have the perfect outfit on, I wasn’t late and only another 3 hours until volleyball tryouts. Here I am walking out of the lunch line, looking around to find a table, I see some people messing around as they walk up to put their trays up. I step back so that I am not in the way, so much for that. One of the people bumped into me and I spill my drink all down the front of my shirt, in spite of everything I was trying to do to avoid something like this. My friends look to me and ask â€Å"Are you ok, do you have another shirt?† I reply to them,† Ugh yes I am ok, and no I don’t have another shirt!† I try to not get so mad there is only 3 hours left until tryouts and that is what’s going to make my day. Well after lunch I go to my next classes, with a much stained shirt and everyone asking, â€Å"What happened?† I would just say â€Å"I don’t want to talk about it. Furthermore it is the last bell of the day ringing; the clock struck 3:10p.m. School is out, and although I have a stained shirt and had to sit by boys it was still a good day. On the other hand what else could go wrong right? I head to the gym where all the other girls are that are also trying out today. Coach Campbell comes in and tells us,† Girls start your stretches and when you are done you need to run laps.† I look over to the other girls, who are about as interested in the stretches and laps as I am. Here we are down on the floor stretching our bodies until we can’t stretch no more. I think well the hard part is over. Not anywhere near to what I was thinking. Captain of the team says, â€Å"Come on girls we need to get these laps down so we can get to practicing and the tryouts.† I am hesitant but I do it. After a while of running laps we get a little water break and are divided into groups of four. We are divided so that there is someone to set the ball, spike the ball, to practice hits and to practice serves. I am so excited and nervous my hands are all sweaty. It was my groups turn. We did very well with the serves and the hitting. I however am not very good with the setting or the spiking. My coach takes me aside to do individual setting, where you practice setting on the wall. It sounds a little weird right, however it is effective. They also say when you set with your hands to find your window and that you are doing a set properly. I tried and I tried thinking that I did a pretty okay job. Now it was on to spiking. This was not my strong point; I am a little short and never really get much height with the ball. This individual practice does not turn out as well as I had hoped. Presently we all are done with the tryouts, with the group practice and the individual practice. Coach C ampbell comes in the room and tells us,† You all have worked very hard today I appreciate you coming out, Now I am going to call you back one by one and let you know if you made it or not.† Meanwhile I sit here on the cool gym floor waiting patiently, as I watch girl after girl go in that office and come out with a satisfaction of knowing that they have made the team or to see the tears stream down there face as if there world had been crushed. It is almost my turn; I can hardly wait, because I know I just did such a great job. The coach calls me in; I am so nervous, and very quiet. She says to me,† I appreciate you coming today and you did a good job, however you didn’t make the team this year. If you would like you could be the team manager.† My response to this was,† I didn’t make it; I thought I did a really good job, and what does the team manager do?† The coach replies,† Well the team manager carries around the water bottles, fills them, and carries the balls around, would this be something you’re interested in?† I sat there still with a very shocked look on my face. I thought about what she had just said, I wanted to be with the team very badly, yet not as a ball carrier Even though I did not make the team, I did not want to be lowered to someone who get made fun of and everyone knows a ball carrier is someone who had gotten rejected. I did not want what seemed liked the whole world to know that I had been rejected, it’s embarrassing. For all that, I declined her offer, walked with my head bowed out of the gym, through the halls, and to outside. I found a bench there and sat to reflect on what had just happened. I thought to myself, today was suppose to be the best day every, it was the first day for everything. I have never been told that I had not made the team; I don’t understand why I didn’t. Therefore that day was the last day that I had ever tried out for sports, I still have the passion for volleyball and I play with friends when I get a chance, but for high school my sports days were over. I couldn’t handle being rejected, and just being told that I was as good as a ball carrier it seemed. Thereafter that point of rejection I decided to find a different thing, class that I was good in and enjoyed as well. I had found that our school had offered Concert Choir. It was a performance choir and that meant a lot of dedication and work. I was ready for this I believed, I had pulled myself together to not be rejected once more. I walked into my music class for the vocal tryouts, where my teacher had said to the class,† You’re going to need to sight read for your audition.† That is something I had not learned yet, coming from a small school. I had confronted the music teacher Mrs. McWhirter, I was trembling with fear that I would be rejected once agai n. I said to her,† I was never taught how to sight read.† To my surprise she responded, â€Å"That’s okay, just follow my voice.† That was the best thing I remember hearing. She had said it was okay, not that I was not good enough, and she had not rejected me. That was the greatest felling to me that day. I ended up staying in Concert Choir the rest of my high school career. With that one teacher giving me that chance I do not fear rejection as much, I still however work as twice as hard to succeed no matter how small the task. Boldwoods Christmas party Essay Example for Free

Boldwood’s Christmas party Essay Bathsheba Everdene is the main character in a Thomas Hardy novel called â€Å"Far From the Madding Crowd†. Which is set in Wessex. Bathsheba’s character is along with many other things decisive, brisk, vain, businesslike, and independent. However you see her evolve throughout the book, mainly as a result of her marriage to Frank Troy. At the beginning of the story Hardy seems to focus on her bad qualities, though you still see people wishing to be married to her. Some good qualities are shown as well like her thoughtful response to save Gabriel’s life. This trait is mentioned in chapter one, almost everything else follows on from this. Vanity affects the way she behaves in a powerful way. Her vanity makes her annoyed and angry at not attracting Boldwood’s attention. When she meets Frank Troy he plays up to her vanity by paying her compliments and showing her flirtatious affection. By the end of the story she shows that she has grown out of or overcome her vanity. Instead of wanting to stand out and have everyone looking at her, at Boldwood’s Christmas party, she dresses down and wants to merge into the background. You can also see she is not vain because when Boldwood praises her beauty the comments have no effect. Her life experiences have caused this change in her. The main life experience is her marriage to Frank Troy which affected her the most. She transforms from a confident character to a submissive and introverted figure she becomes less and less like her usual self. The first sign you see of independence is fairly near the beginning in chapter three, when we see her riding the horse. Instead of doing it the conventional ladylike way we see her lie flat on her back on top of the horse’s back. This could be showing her independence and unconventional behaviour, this would tie in with an independent spirit â€Å"too wild†. She likes to have independence so later on in the story when this is taken away from her we see her rely on Gabriel Oak. She always had her own independence, but when she got married she lost that independence and we see her seek advice and help from Gabriel Oak. At one point in the story she rejects Gabriel’s advice, but later on in chapter fifty four she asks for it. This shows a big change in her personality. She once would have done her own thing and maybe even sacked Gabriel for his ‘advice’ whereas she now values both him and his opinion. Her independence continues to be shown throughout the rest if the story, even after her marriage to Frank Troy. Independence along with confidence is showed when she goes to the corn market and is the only woman there. Another characteristic shown is confidence with businesslike skills. An example of this would be when she takes it upon herself to sack her bailiff. â€Å"I have formed a resolution to have no bailiff at all†. Bathsheba’s confidence continues to be shown with her decision to pay the workers herself in chapter ten. Bathsheba has a lot of confidence in herself. â€Å"In short I shall astonish you all†. This is said shortly after her decision to have no bailiff when she is convincing the staff that she can manage. The speech shows her self-confidence shining and her belief in her own ability. Towards the end of the novel we see her find an even balance between the overconfidence which she showed through the beginning of the novel which made her appear full of herself, compared with when she had little or no confidence and relied on Frank Troy, to finally become a person who can cope on her own but realises she cannot do everything to the best of her ability without assistance. Before we see her lose her self confidence she shows she believes in herself by going to the Corn Market, making her the only woman present. One thing bothers Bathsheba; the fact that Boldwood is the only person who does not take notice of her. This lack of attention shows us how she craves to be the centre of attention; you could even go as far as calling her an attention seeker. She will do silly antics in an attempt to attract people’s attention. For example the Valentine’s Day card. Bathsheba tries to make herself popular with everyone especially men; this seems to be her biggest desire. In chapter thirteen she mischievously sends a Valentine card to Boldwood to attract his attention. This starts Bathsheba’s change. She wants people to notice her and does not sit around waiting she takes action for herself. The sending of the Valentines card shows her vain characteristic. A big characteristic she shows throughout is impulsiveness, she does things without thinking. The Valentine’s Day card is an example of this; another example of this earlier in the book is when she chases Gabriel Oak after he had been wrongly informed that many men wanted her hand in marriage; though she did not want to accept his proposal. She did not think that her actions would show this until after the conversation her and Gabriel had. Many of her actions are on impulse she doesn’t think things through first. Later on however she takes time to think about Fanny’s grave and she decides to clean it up and replant the bulbs on it. This also shows she can be selfless. When Gabriel gives her advice early in the novel she decides she doesn’t like what he has to say. She sacks him whilst she was angry and acting highly impulsively. This demonstrates how she doesn’t want to face the truth even though she values his opinion; later in the novel after the â€Å"drowning† of Frank Troy she relents asking him for his thoughts. Biographical and Cultural Background Paper on John Updike and his Essay

Biographical and Cultural Background Paper on John Updike and his story A&P - Essay Example By simply reading through the texts, one might not see how much of the American society in the 1950’s Updike has exposed. As such, his attitude towards the issues of the society in which the author lived in was also apparent. The irony in the manner he illustrate the settings and the events in A & P shows how much involved the author was in the different issues surrounding him. His sarcasm and negative point of view about Russia and the Cold War was evident in Stokesie’s character where Sammy narrates that he thinks hes going to be manager some sunny day, maybe in 1990 when its called the Great Alexandrov and Petrooshki Tea Company or something (Kirszner and Mandell, p. 95) In D. Quentin Miller’s (p. 3) John Updike and the Cold War: Drawing the Iron Curtain, he describes Updike’s writings as those that reveal the underlying truth about the American society during the Cold War era that requires aggressiveness in order to attain its goals. Sammy’s character in A & P shows the same aggressiveness that each single individual in the American society should posses in order to achieve what they aspire for. However, Updike simply did not make his readers live by the disillusion that they could achieve everything they wish for through any aggressive acts, whereas the reality in which risks and disappointments occur as well. A & P’s end clearly shows how Updike sticks to the existent condition in the society rather than a

MANAGING ASSETS AND RESOURCES IN THE DIGITAL FIRM Essay

MANAGING ASSETS AND RESOURCES IN THE DIGITAL FIRM - Essay Example I would recommend to my boss to adopt the framework and point out a few recommendations to incorporate with the information systems framework in the company. The first recommendation I would make for my boss is that he should develop a larger network for the use of information system framework outlined by Damsgaard. This is because the framework works best on a larger scale (Damsgaard & Karlsbjerg, 2010). Secondly, I would recommend for my boss to set up a maintenance system for the new framework of system software. This will prevent information system failure experienced by companies when the systems fail to serve their intended purpose. Thirdly, I would recommend to my boss to set up a training panel because the new set of system software will require adequate training to enable employees obtain the basic skills needed in the operation of the operation of the software. Lastly, I would recommend my boss to take a risk in purchasing the software. This is because profits are achieved when an organization decides to take a risk. I believe that components of information systems software outlined by Damsgaard are effective and a business that incorporates it stands a higher opportunity of being successful (Damsgaard & Karlsbjerg,

Napster: The Copyright Battle Essay -- Fair Use

Once upon a time a website provided free music through peer-to-peer file sharing. This was a new technology for the public for a several reasons. The price of home computers had declines dramatically and many people could now afford one. Because of the affordability, many people who had never used a computer suddenly found themselves enmeshed in the new media. Not only could people do their e-mail, do paperwork, play games and use all the different applications they now could also share their files with others. Of course, they wanted to share one of our most valued pleasures, our love of music. The public was not aware that this type of file sharing was illegal because it was not clear on the website disclaimer. Most people did not understand United States copyright laws or the concept of Fair Use. It was the golden age of the internet and everyone was happy with his or her new toy. In this paper, I will discuss legal implications of peer-to-peer file sharing. The most famous cas e was the Napster lawsuits. I was interested because I got a cease and desist letter spring 2000. I stopped but I never quite understood what the difference was between file-sharing and recording music off the radio, which I later learned was illegal also. This paper will explore if the current copyright laws provide the protection necessary for intellectual property. If not, does it need to be revised? Can the Fair Use Doctrine and the new technology co-exist in the same world? According to Wikipedia (2011), â€Å"Napster was an online music peer-to-peer file sharing service created by Shawn Fanning while he was attending Northeastern University in Boston. The service, named after Fanning's hairstyle-based nickname, operated between June 1999 and July ... ... such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Section 107 also sets out four factors to be considered in determining whether or not a particular use is fair: 1. The purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes 2. The nature of the copyrighted work 3. The amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole 4. The effect of the use upon the potential market for, or value of, the copyrighted work The distinction between fair use and infringement may be unclear and not easily defined. There is no specific number of words, lines, or notes that may safely be taken without permission. Acknowledging the source of the copyrighted material does not substitute for obtaining permission. Compartment Syndrome

Balancing Change Everyone experiences drastic changes or problems in their lives, and the ones who can react and find solutions to them will most likely end up conquering them. For some, it can take a long time to adjust, while others can come out on top quicker. It was a normal feeling Friday when I woke up on January 26th, 2007, but little did I know this would be the biggest challenge that I have ever had to face. â€Å"Ring†¦. ring†¦.. ring,† the school bell rang deafeningly through the gymnasium. It was first period, and the first class on my agenda for the day was my personal favorite, â€Å"P. E. †, short for Physical Education. The class started out with our muscle-loosening stretches, and then moved on to one of my all-time favorite sports, basketball. The sparkling, brand new â€Å"Kobe Bryant 8’s† were a necessity for my feet in order to play. As I was tying the knots to begin, my best friend Ryan Decker glided swiftly into class with h is â€Å"Heely’s†, which are shoes made with a wheel incorporated into the sole of the shoe. What did I do, when I first spotted them?I asked him if I could try them on and roll around the gymnasium, because the slick floor provides a perfect surface for rolling around on. As I was rolling around, a basketball rolled in between my feet. I stared at it, and thought about it for a couple seconds. I thought to myself, â€Å"How cool would it be to roll from one side to the other, then shoot a layup right into the basket? † Step by step, glide by glide, I was gaining speed. â€Å"BOOM! † Before I could even comprehend what happened, I glared down at a surging pain that vibrated through my whole body, mainly sourcing from my left ankle. My ankle was completely turned backwards. I frantically yelled out to my instructor, â€Å"MY ANKLE IS BROKEN! † As he sprinted over to the other side of the gymnasium where I was laying in agony, I could see an audience starting to gather. He informed me that the ambulance was on its way and that my mother had been notified. Five minutes later, the ambulance arrived to my side. Before I knew it, I was placed into the ambulance, and I was on my way to seek urgent medical attention. Within four hours, I went through multiple x-rays, took a bunch of ain-killers, and a vibrant green colored cast was placed onto the lower half of my leg. Unfortunately enough, I had suffered a double break through my tibia, which is the second biggest bone in the human body, next to the femur. I thought to myself about all the consequences this would cause and how it would interfere with my everyday life. After a long ride home with my mother, I finally saw my house in the distance; I was home. With my leg still screaming with pain, I wondered why the pain was still so severe, even with the help of the pain killers.I kept on repeating to my parents that I was still in excruciating pain. The pain was so unbearable that I couldn’t keep my mind off of it. This continued on for a couple days, but then something went terribly wrong. I tried to wiggle my toes to see if my movement was still there, but it wasn’t. Over and over again, I kept trying to move them and then I came to realize all of the movement in my foot was gone. I finally communicated to my parents that there was really something bad going on and that I needed to get rushed back to the hospital for a checkup. After impatiently waiting in the waiting room for about an hour, I the doctor finally arrived to escort the family and I to the testing room. Then the worst words, that I will never forget came out of her mouth. â€Å"Robert†¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦I made a mistake when I diagnosed you with a broken ankle†¦you have suffered from a condition called compartment syndrome. † â€Å"Compartment syndrome is a limb threatening and life threatening condition, defined as the compression of nerves, blood vessels, and muscle inside a closed space (compartment[->0]) within the body. This leads to tissue death from lack of oxygenation due to the blood vessels being compressed by the raised pressure within the compartment† (PubMed). All of a sudden, the doctor said I needed to be placed into surgery immediately before the condition worsened. I kept thinking about my future in school, sports, and most importantly my health. My education was in path to become a big failure, sports was not going to be a significant part of my life anymore, and hopefully my leg was still going to be attached to my body by the end of this. After a successful surgery of putting in screws through my thick tibia bone, adding new tendons from a cadaver, and fixing it cosmetically, I finally woke up from the anesthesia. Movements with my ankle hurt like hell, but I didn’t even seem to care because I was able to regain movement and at least half of my feeling back. Eight weeks passed by, and I was finally able to start my phys ical therapy training to try and overcome this beast of an incident. The physical therapist first instructed me to walk down the hallway on about fifty percent of my weight. As I was taking my second step I heard and felt a click in my ankle. The stitches holding my tendons together into place ripped through them like a soft cheese. I again was not able to move any part to my foot and ankle. I was back to square one once again. I was not physically and mentally prepared for something this bad to happen. I was going to have to go under the knife once more to fix this mess of an injury. This same instance of ripping through the cadaver’s tendon in my ankle happened five more times before I was fully healed. But what does fully healed mean?Fully healed to me, meant nothing because of everything I went through to get to this point. No student should have to miss 3 months of school in one school year and have to be strayed from any scholastic activities for that long. No athlete sh ould have to miss a whole season and championship run because of an injury. Lastly no human being should have to worry about their health and their chance of living at the age of fifteen. At the end of this challenge, I had to go through seven surgeries, when really it should’ve only taken about two.Because the doctor never tested my ankle for compartment syndrome, I had to suffer. What did suffering do to me in the long run? It turned me into who I am today. A young man who feels like he can make his was through any adversity, problems, or change. When something bad happens to yourself, you are given two choices: either to react in a manner aiming to better yourself from the situation, or to grieve and stay emotionally broken. Always keep your head up, and never think the worst because it can always get better with the right attitude.I am now right back on track with my education, and the ankle feels better than ever. Never again, will I ever put on another pair of â€Å"He ely’s† in my life. The art of being able to balance change is something that I believe has transformed me into the person I am today and the person I am going to be. Works Cited: Board, A. D. A. M. Editorial. How Student Loans Have Affected The Cost Of Tuition

In the 1980s a first-year college student could attend a public four-year university for $2,500 and a private university for a little over $5,000. Although, most of these universities are offering the same mediocre education from the last three decades; the cost of tuition has more than tripled for public universities and for private universities, it has gone up a staggering 85%. Canada holds an average educational cost of 5,974 and England follows with an estimated average cost of 5,288. In spite the tuition in the United States being more than twice that of its allies; the main problem contributing to the continuing rise of tuition are the billions of dollars owed in both federal and private student loans. Unfortunately, out of 15 countries the United States held the number one position when it came down to the cost of a higher education (including books, fees, room and board). With that being said, I will thoroughly explain in the following essay how student loans have affected th e cost of tuition, compare US tuition to other countries, and analyze the average spending budget for most universities that prove to influence the rise in tuition. At some point, it was said that the United States had a high credit card debt that could take a few decades to pay off. Now student loans are the talk of the Federal Reserve, with the amount of loans accumulating up to $829.785 billion, surpassing the infamous credit card debt.
